DIY Tutorial : Silk Floral Arrangement

August 10, 2014

Clearly I am Pinterest obsessed and it is my “go to” for any inspiration. I recently moved and went straight to Pinterest for decor ideas. I came across this photo (below) and began searching for faux floral arrangements to add some pizazz to my desk area. Low and behold I found them and sure enough they were a million doll hairs, just as I suspected. So I instinctively  ran to Hobby Lobby, per usual, and decided to pick the supplies up to do it myself.
Adorable right? Pinterest sourced the image to this blog (listed above). I have always loved white and neutrals so naturally I wanted to recreate the floral arrangement she had in the picture, exactly. So like I said before I ran to Hobby Lobby and picked up the supplies. Usually I would research to see if I could get the supplies any cheaper on the web but I wanted this done that day and didn’t have time to sit around and wait on shipping, etc. Hobby Lobby had everything I needed, and to top it off their floral was 50% off. Winning!
Here are the supplies you will need, but please switch the scissors out for wire cutters, I learned this the hard way and clearly took the photo before I spent twenty minutes trying to cut wire with scissors, fail.

Supplies for Faux Flower Arrangement:
1. Vase – your choice in color, size, etc. This one is second to the smallest clear vase they had at Hobby Lobby.
2. Craft Water – basically resin, but i could be wrong. Found in the floral section of HL. Used a 40% off coupon for this,  just download the Hobby Lobby app on your phone!
3. Scissors aka Wire Cutters – save yourself from a struggle and just use the wire cutters.
4. Six Long Stem Faux Roses – pretty self explanatory and wait until they are 50% off!
5. Pot of boiling water and tongs- used to liquify the Craft Water and keep the vase warm.
Ok so lets get started!
1. Fill a large pot with water half way, and gently place Craft Water bottle standing straight up. Please remember to keep cap on and tight. Bring water to a boil then reduce to a more gentle boil (the roaring boil made the bottle fall over and you want to keep it standing straight up).
2. While your Craft Water is liquifying begin cutting stems of roses, measure them to how tall you want them when placed in the vase.
3. Craft Water should be completely liquified after 10 minutes, if not leave in a little longer. When CW is completely liquified carefully take out CW bottle with tongs and set to the side, then empty boiling water into sink and turn off the heat to the stove. Place your empty pot back onto the warm burner (stove heat still off).
4. Place empty vase into the empty, still warm, pot. Remember NO WATER should be inside of the pot. This will keep the vase warm while you pour the CW in and force any bubbles to the top.
5. Pour entire contents of the CW bottle into the vase, very slowly! It will splash and make a mess if you do this too fast. Let vase and CW sit for ten minutes (this pushes the bubbles to the top).
6. Remove CW filled vase with oven mit and begin placing flowers in the vase to your liking.
7. Once you have arranged the stems to your liking leave the arrangement for 24 hours in a place no kiddos can touch it. And by kids I mean ANYONE, dogs, cats, etc. Keep it still for a SOLID 24 hrs.
8. Enjoy your 1/4 of the price fancy flower arrangement!
If I remember correctly I spent well under $20.00 to make the arrangement! Hope this helps y’all save some money and be fancy at the same time!
