Hey guys!! I hope you have been enjoying reading through Ruth!! I have learned so much in this book and Im sure you have too!! This week we are reading through chapter three and things start getting romantic with Boaz and Ruth. Be sure to follow along on my podcast “FaithFully Yours” for this devotional and more!

Chapter three isn’t very long but its powerful!! I have an outline of the events that took place in these 18 verses and it will give you a better feel for what happened without having to read them word for word.

RUTH CHAPTER 3 SUMMARY

• • 1-4 Naomi tells Ruth to get herself together and go lay at the feet of Boaz.
  • 5-7 Ruth trusts Naomi and does what she says. Ruth waits for Boaz to finish drinking and eating and then lays at his feet
  • 8-9 Its midnight and Boaz wakes to Ruth at his feet. He asks who she is and she tells him and asks him to be their family redeemer and take her under his wing.
  • 10-13 Boaz finds favor in Ruth because she has not pursued a younger or richer man. He tells her he will protect her reputation with the people and that there is another man he knows that is to be her redeemer and that he must see if he wants her first.
  • 14-15 They wake and he gives her 6 bushels of barley to take to Naomi. He says to let no one know she spent the night with him.
  • 16-18 Ruth goes back to Naomi with the barley and when she sees what Boaz has done and Ruth tells her what he said she knows his intentions.

Can I just say that Boaz is seriously so amazing. I wish they had more of him in the Bible so I could hear more of his story. Before we talk about Mr B I want to make a few points about Naomi.

Naomi must have really trusted Ruth because she was sacrificing Ruths job in Boaz fields by telling her to go in the middle of the night to lay at his feet. Back then it was common for prostitutes to work near the fields and try to lay with the men who worked and owned the fields. Naomi was taking a big risk but she knew that if Ruth was to have another husband she had to do this. How did Naomi know that Boaz wouldn’t lay with her and then ruin her reputation? I wish we knew more of the story!!

Now lets get into the good part. Boaz and Ruth are finally in love!! Poor Ruth lost her husband and now she’s having to take care of her mother in law and herself. She meets this older man who wants to help her and gives her a job and she’s thankful but now her mother in law is telling her to go lay at his feet and basically propose to him?! This poor girl. But she does it and because she has dedicated her life to God he has favor on her. He delivers her from her current situation because she has faith in Him. Faith in God is required if we want to receive blessings from Him.

Lets set the scene, its midnight in Boaz bedroom and theres a beautiful young woman of God laying at his feet. What man would say no to laying with her? Not many. Boaz revealed great self control because he knew that there was another man who was to be with her if he chose her. Boaz also went so far to protect her reputation with the men who saw her enter the room. He protected her and respected her. Boaz had favor on Ruth because she could have easily pursued a man that was younger or richer than he was. He knew she believed in God and trusted Him and he loved that about her. These are such important qualities to look for in todays dating world. Make sure the man you are pursuing is a man of God and a man of his word. Make sure that he protects you and respects you.
